On Wings Of Waste To Help Save The Oceans.

The topic of plasticity of the ocean has been gaining steam among the general public and media. With gigantic gyres of tiny discarded plastic (refuse from the world's societies) growing constantly and creating layers of plastic over large parts of the ocean, this issue is a pending disaster.

But necessity can be the mother of invention. Solutions may be close at hand if individuals like Jeremy Rowsell have anything to do with the world's crisis.

The Australian aviator and business visionary will demonstrate that it is possible to use discarded plastic and convert it with fuel to pilot an airplane from Sydney to London.

His Cessna plane will be fueled by diesel created from plastic trash. We have a whole bunch of [plastic] waste kicking about. So instead of sending it to the landfill, let's use it. He realizes that this dramatic flight will cause a stir around the world. I'm kind of carrier pigeon, carrying a message.

It is a potential message of good hope. If plastic trash can be used as a fuel resource, then there is promise that the vast majority of plastic that finds its way to landfills and the oceans can be reduced, and therefore, decreasing the serious environmental threat to the globe. If plastic trash can be seen as having intrinsic value, then less of it will find its way to the ocean.

Doug Woodring of Ocean Recovery Alliance and the Clean Half calls Rowsell's project a hint of a huge opportunity. Once people get it, it will take off.

As Rowsell will with plastic trash as his fuel.
